Greetings
There is an African term from the Akan of Ghana called “Sankofa” which can be translated as “go back and get it.” A pictorial description shows a bird looking backward with the egg of the future in her beak as she constantly checks while she moves forward. This past year we were faced with several obstacles in which Nature ruled with a force that included tumultuous weather conditions, Hurricane Irene and the following winter storm which left many of us in the dark without food, heat and power. Sankofa teaches us to look back at our past as we move forward in the hopes that our past experiences will enlighten our future. The economy is still struggling and with the upcoming presidential election we all will be tasked with our decision making skills. Take the time to have a “Sankofa moment” in regards to your personal and professional lives. Let Sankofa teach us to look back and reflect so that our decision making is sound.
Thank you for your continued community support as always. May you and your family be blessed and prosperous throughout the year.
