New England Staycations By Tomari Parks

Finding something to do that’s easy on the pocket may be hard but there are many places you can go that are near home.  Places in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island can be fun especially when creating new memories. Take a drive with a group of friends or maybe even a girlfriend or boyfriend. You’ll discover some of the places in these states are more affordable and ideal when you’re planning on taking a day trip or an overnight trip. Or you can decide to visit one of the places on this list the next time you’re in either state. Below are some fun places to go in Massachusetts or New York along with prices and where they are located.

MA

  • Old North Church (193 Salem St, Boston, MA 02113)

Enjoy and explore the site where the famous “One if by land, and two if by sea” signal is said to have been sent. Bring your friends and family out to have a great time and learn more about the very historical site.

  • Cape Ann

Bring out your bathing suits and swim trunks to enjoy the nice waters of Cape Ann. Located right on the Atlantic Ocean and about 30 minutes away from Boston. Have a great time enjoy the waters especially on a hot sunny day.

  • House of the Seven Gables (115 Derby St, Salem, MA 01970)

Made famous because it is where Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The House of Seven Gables is based upon. Explore this house and get a taste of what the novel itself entails.

  • The Freedom Trail

A 2.5-mile-long trail going through downtown Boston. Enjoy 16 different locations as you go through the trail and site see in a totally different way.

  • Mulligan’s miniature golf (124 Leominster Rd, Sterling, MA 01564)

Bring your friends and family out to enjoy a nice evening of mini golf. Competition is great at this 18-hole mini golf course.

NY

  • Madame Tussauds New York (234 W 42nd St, New York, NY 10036)

Enjoy life-size wax replicas of famous Americans in this wonderful wax museum. Bring your family out to discover more about those who made our country great.

  • New York Hall of Science (47-01 111th St, Queens, NY 11368)

This is a science museum located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. There are great times to visit during the school year and enjoy very interactive science exhibits or take a trip during the day in the summer with the whole family.

  • Frick Collection (1 E 70th St, New York, NY 10021)

This is a great art museum located in the Henry Clay Frick House. This museum showcases some of the best-known artwork by European artists. Enjoy some art and grab a bite after coming to take in the artistic beauty.

  • The Cloisters (99 Margaret Corbin Dr, New York, NY 10040)

Enjoy this museum located in upper Manhattan. This museum specializes in European medieval art and architecture. Spend the day here and observe art that represents a blast from the past.

  • Prospect Park ice skating

Take time away from tourists and other crowded sites and go ice skating with some friends and family. This is a smaller and less-crowded ice rink where you can show your moves in the rink and have a great time.

RI

  • Cliff Walk (Newport, RI)

Walk the borders of one of the top attractions in Newport, Rhode Island. Enjoy the 3.5-mile public walkway with friends and family and enjoy the beautiful weather.

  • Norman Bird Sanctuary (583 3rd Beach Rd, Middletown, RI 02842)

Come and enjoy the 325-acre bird sanctuary. This nature preserve gives you the chance to look at beautiful animals and enjoy them as they wander near you.

  • Newport Storm Brewery (293 JT Connell Hwy, Newport, RI 02840)

Take a tour around one of Rhode Island’s famous breweries. Enjoy gifts from the gift shop and watch the amazing brewing process.

  • International Tennis Hall of Fame (194 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI 02840)
