The Well Intentioned Lie

By Drexel White

I feel like I need to speak on something. I’m big on people with differences coming together and having dialogue. I hope that this page is a place where my friends of different backgrounds feel comfortable discussing things. If you’ve been here more than 2 weeks you’ve seen that a lot of my social network is Caucasian. The truth is due to my geography and professional life I spend a great deal of time in white spaces amongst white women. The ones in my life, I hold very dear. Most of y’all know I’ll air a place out about about my Martin. I will argue with my black friends just as quickly as I will my white ones. If you ain’t shit. Imma call it. Ask my family about the Group Me this summer. EVERYBODY can get that action!! A lot of y’all might not phuck with me after this post but I’m ok as long as the deposit drops.

White friends and family PLEASE STOP confusing morsels of black progress with there being an absence of racism. Whenever a black person is the first at something, receives accolades or rewards that doesn’t negate the fact that in the 21st century they were the first to ever receive such. That’s problematic as hell. Furthermore I can almost guarantee you they had to work their ass off and be three times as good as their white counterparts to get there. There’s not a black child alive who hasn’t received that speech and lesson.

Also please stop telling black people when they call you out on your problematic behavior that they are responsible for ” racial divide” in this country. Ladies and gentlemen black folks are responsible for a lot of shit in the United States of America but they HAVE NEVER BEEN the origin, or the perpetrators of racism. We have NEVER HAD that much power!!!
