Our Piece of the Pie Celebrates 50 Years of Empowering Youth in Greater Hartford

Seeking Out Alumni, Former Staff, and Sponsors

Our Piece of the Pie, Inc. (OPP) first opened as Southend Community Services in 1975. For the past 50 years, OPP has supported and empowered youth in Greater Hartford. Join us on October 16, 2025 to celebrate OPP’s 50th Anniversary: Legacy of Leaders! The event will be held at Hartford Marriott Downtown at 5:30 PM. Visit https://bit.ly/OPP50thAnniversary to register today.

As we prepare for our 50th anniversary celebration, we are reaching out to former youth and staff to share their stories, photos, and help us document our history. OPP has evolved over the years from Southend Community Services to Our Piece of Pie, Inc. A major catalyst for change was the YO!Hartford program launched in 2000. If you are a former youth, staff, or volunteer, keep reading to learn how to share your story and help us celebrate 50 years of OPP!

OPP is a nonprofit with a mission to empower youth with the key competencies needed to overcome barriers and succeed in education and employment. OPP works with Hartford area youth ages 14-24, who face obstacles including disengagement from school, poverty, justice involvement, welfare system involvement, and unemployment. We engage youth to create a road map to the future with goals for personal development, academic achievement, and workforce readiness. Every youth has a plan that identifies barriers along with supports and services needed for youth to make their dreams a reality. Each youth is paired with a trained, caring, and proactive Youth Development Specialist acting as a guide and mentor, providing high-touch case management.

We want to hear everyone’s favorite memories with OPP! For former staff, we want to know how OPP shaped your career and what you are doing now. For youth alumni, we want to know how the program impacted you at the time and how it shifted your journey.

Send a video sharing your memories and photos of your time at OPP to Megan Griffin at megan.griffin@opp.org or call to share your memories at 860-761-7382.

We hope you can join us for our anniversary event. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. If your business is interested in sponsoring our event, please reach out to Kim Johnson at Kim.Johnson@OPP.org or 860-761-7347. To learn more visit https://bit.ly/OPP50thAnniversary
