Do You Have A Voting Plan?

By Nadira Jamerson

With less than 40 days until the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 8, mobilizing now is crucial. With 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats, and 36 governorships up for election, everything from education policies and reproductive freedom to environmental protections and voting rights is at stake.

“The phrase ‘most important election of our lifetime’ has been used for seemingly every election over the past 14 years,” writes Aswad Walker, associate editor of the Houston Defender. “The crazy thing is, each pronouncement has been correct. And so it is again with our citizenship (ability to vote) literally hanging in the balance.”

And, did you know there are 1.2 million newly eligible Black youth voters? This demographic could decide the midterm elections — if they turn out. To get them (and you!) to the polls, Tanya Clay House, the executive vice president of campaigns and advocacy for Hip Hop Caucus has some common-sense advice: “We want you to make a plan so that you are not caught off guard either during early voting or the day of the election — so you know what you need to do in order to protect your right.” Click here to read more.

Talk to your friends and family this weekend and make sure you are all registered and have a voting plan. It will make a big difference.
