The Palestine Shoruq Dance and Hip-Hop artists will be performing at the Artists Collective, Friday, March 31, 2017. The Shoruq performers are from the Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Palestine. The Middle East Children’s Alliance, Tree of Life Educational Fund and Jewish Voice for Peace are partnering with Shoruq to bring this exciting performance to the Artists Collective in Hartford as part of Shoruq’s national tour.
The year 2017 is historic in the history of Palestine and marks the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the 70th anniversary of the UN Partition resolution and the 30th anniversary of the First Intifada. On this tour the young performers tell their story of life under occupation and express their resistance to the occupation through dance and hip-hop.
Almost 70 years have passed since the Nakba, Arabic for catastrophe, which refers to the expulsion of 750,000 Palestinian refugees from their homes and villages. The human spirit’s yearning for justice, equality, peace and freedom are celebrated through this performance.
Don’t miss this one-time opportunity to see Shoruq.
